San Diego Liberty Station: From Barracks to Brews Small Group Tour

If you want an inside look into San Diego’s military scene, this small-group tour is for you. Learn about the former Naval Training Center and what a sailor’s life is like, and pay your respects to 52 submarines lost during World War II. You also visit the former Command Center and detention camp as well as the former Camp John Paul Jones. After a day full of learning, be rewarded with a certificate of completion and a beer.

What To Expect

Liberty Station

Known as the Cradle of the Navy, this former Naval Training Center is now one of San Diego’s most vibrant mulit-use neighborhoods.

ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station

We’ll spend most of our time in the ARTS DISTRICT as we explore the naval past of this former training center, and discover the many artistic and cultural resources that are here now.

Ingram Plaza

Named after the first enlisted man killed during World War I and posthumously given the Medal of Honor, this park houses the original flag pole and was the site of the first detention camp on base.

52 Boats Memorial

These memorial stones and trees pay tribute to the 52 submarines lost during World War II. We’ll take a moment to remember those lost at this memorial, located on the former Preble Field.

Liberty Public Market

We’ll take a quick look at some murals here and how the space was transformed from a commissary to San Diego’s original modern-day food hall.
