4 Hour Denali Hiking and Survival Excursion

This is one of the only fully off-trail activities in Denali, and it's the ONLY survival focused activity offered in the Denali area. It is lead by an expert survivalist guide who has survived off the land for weeks on end. If "Into the Wild" is part of what brought you to Alaska, this is the best way to get an idea of what Chris McCandless's life was really like in the Denali backcountry. Eat the edible plants that he ate and learn the not-so-edible ones he ate that resulted in his demise. This is not something to be missed.

What To Expect

We will pick you up from your hotel and take you to an area only a few miles from Chris McCandless's infamous mishap chronicled in Jon Krakauer's "Into the Wild". From there, your guide will take you off-trail into the Denali boreal forest, exploring with you and teaching you about the wild plants, animals, geology, local history, and more.

When your guide decides you've reached a good spot, they will stop and begin teaching you survival skills that have been used for countless generations by both the indigenous Athabaskan peoples and the numerous pioneers and survivalists who have come to this rugged landscape to test themselves against its harsh conditions. This half day tour will give you a taste of what's possible in the Alaskan wilderness and you'll come away with a closer connection and understanding of this land and the people who inhabit it. You've travelled thousands of miles to get here. Don't limit your vacation to what's on the surface.
